As a HiFi enthusiast, you know that maintaining your equipment is crucial to achieving the best sound quality possible. One essential component that requires regular servicing is the Linn Lingo power supply.
The Linn Lingo power supply is an upgrade for the Linn LP12 turntable, designed to improve the turntable’s performance and sound quality. The Lingo power supply uses advanced technology to provide a more consistent and accurate power supply to the turntable’s motor, resulting in better speed stability and a cleaner sound.
However, like any piece of technology, the Linn Lingo power supply requires regular maintenance to ensure it continues to perform at its best. One common issue that can occur is the failure of the internal capacitors. Over time the electrolytic capacitors age and the electrolyte dries out leading to issues with slow motors, needing a push to get the platter spinning or no rotation at all. We are pleased to announce that we now service all variants of the Lingo 1, 2 and 3 power supplies.
DIY Update kits
In addition, we also supply both through-hole and SMD servicing kits if you are skilled at electronics repair. However, please note that the PCB’s of the Lingo are quite fragile and high-quality temperature-controlled soldering iron is essential. Due to the assembly method employed by Linn the through-hole capacitors are difficult to remove and it’s very easy to lift tracks and pads on the PCB – only attempt a DIY repair if you are extremely competent at fine PCB rework. Later versions employ Surface Mount Technology so ensure you choose the correct variant when ordering as they are priced differently.
Aside from the regular servicing, there are a few things you can do to keep your Linn Lingo power supply in top condition. Firstly, ensure that the power supply is kept in a cool, dry location, away from any sources of heat or moisture. Secondly, handle the power supply with care, avoiding any drops or impacts that could damage the internal components. Finally, ensure that the power supply is plugged into a surge protector to protect it from any power surges or electrical interference.
Perhaps the best upgrade you can make to your Lingo is to replace it with a Zeus speed-sensing power supply. 🙂
